function (psychic function, “psychological function” or “cognitive function”, also sometimes “frame”): each of the 4[x2] fundamental sides or aspects of reality that the mind is adapted to recognize and interpret (we have them just like we have eyes because there is light, that’s why they are the senses of the mind) = T/F/S/N with their e/i orientations (below → acronym: name of the function | the essence of the function | alternative terms | a noun and | an adjective to describe its contents in a very general way | and then a place that could symbolize it, mostly through what happens in it)

Fe: extraverted feeling | external concordance | tangible goodness | agreements | shared | theatre
Se: extraverted sensation | external presence | tangible forms | realities | present | restaurant
Ne: extraverted intuition | external absence | tangible relations | possibilities | possible | market
Ti: introverted thinking | internal difference | intangible precision | concepts | identified | library
Fi: introverted feeling | internal concordance | intangible goodness | values | good | home
Si: introverted sensation | internal presence | intangible forms | experiences | useful | garden
Ni: introverted intuition | internal absence | intangible relations | meanings | true | sanctum
essence (of a function): difference (thinking), concordance (feeling), presence (sensation), absence (intuition)
static/solid/heavy functions: S and T
dynamic/fluid/light functions: N and F
dimension (also sphere): each of the 4 function pairs (Te-Fi, Fe-Ti, Se-Ni, Ne-Si)
Role: TiFe dimension/sphere (identity-expression | concept-recognition)
Deed: FiTe dimension/sphere (responsibility-action | desirability-fact)
Real: NiSe dimension/sphere (meaning-presence | reason-existence)
Myth: SiNe dimension/sphere (experience-progression | perspective-movement)
court card: each of the 16 human archetypes represented in the 16 character cards of the Minor Arcana in the tarot (Pages, Knights, Queens and Kings), which correspond to the 16 psychological types
myth (also legend or soul age): Child/Page (IP), Teen/Knight (EP), Adult/Queen (IJ), or Elder/King (EJ)
suit/element (also realm): Pentacles/Diamonds/Earth (ST), Cups/Hearts/Water (SF), Swords/Spades/Air (NT), Wands/Clubs/Fire (NF)
temperament: each of the 16 combinations of choleric (decisive, determined), sanguine (enthusiastic, hedonistic), melancholic (controlled, scrupulous), and phlegmatic (patient, wandering), with one as primary or internal (= Berens’ Interaction Style), and one as secondary or external (= Keirsey’s Group), for example melancholic/choleric, which corresponds to INTJ (Ti-Ni-Se-Fe)
proper: each of the 4 functions that define a given type, from dominant to inferior (they are what the mind considers “true”, and we often say the person “has” them)
ghost (also ghostly): the functions derived from reversing the attitude of the proper ones (they are what the mind considers “false”, and we often say the person “doesn’t have” them)
order (of the functions): arrangement of the functions in different locations, from most conscious to most unconscious (it can be the general eeii/iiee order, or one of the 16 type-specific orders)
location (of a function) (also position): specific place in the general function order/diagram (it can be X1, X2, X3, X4, G1, G2, G3 or G4)
X1: conscious dominant function = dominant function
X2: conscious auxiliary function = auxiliary function
X3: unconscious auxiliary function = tertiary function
X4: unconscious dominant function = inferior function
G1: unconscious dominant ghost (= non-function)
G2: unconscious auxiliary ghost (= glimpse-function)
G3: conscious auxiliary ghost (= smoke-function)
G4: conscious dominant ghost (= bubble-function)
cZ: conscious function Z (for example cTi means conscious Ti)
uZ: unconscious function Z (for example uNe means unconscious Ne)
X#: proper function in # position
G#: ghost function (e↔i) corresponding to the proper function with the same #
gZ: ghost function Z (for example gTi means ghost Ti)
gZ#: ghost function Z in the G# position (for example gTi3 means having Ti as G3)
differentiation (of a function): degree of consciousness (= separation from other contents = self-clarity) of a particular function in a person’s mind (X1 > X2 > X3 > X4)
interrelation (also relationship): dynamic between two function locations (for example between auxiliary and tertiary), which includes the ideas of transference, eclipse and separation
transference: the way energy/information “moves” or is reflected inside the same function, from one attitude to the other (either e→i or i→e, either ghost→proper or proper→ghost)
eclipse (of a function by another): the way the content of a ghost function is interpreted in terms of the proper one located at the same level of conscious···unconscious (the effect is inversely proportional to function differentiation, and it can be found in how G2 is partly/mostly eclipsed by X3, and how G1 is totally eclipsed by X4)
separation (between two functions, also disconnection): fact/effect derived from the distance between the most conscious and the most unconscious level, which makes the functions located there independent from each other (it includes other things, but it’s often expressed in dimension terms with the phrase “X1 without X4”, for example for ISPs: “experience without progression”)
spheres (of a type): X1-X4 (“outer”) and X2-X3 (“inner”, also called “internal engine” or just “engine”, works inside the outer)
crystallization: the unique way in which an individual’s functions manifest differently from everybody else with the same type and the same level of differentiation
type variant: undefined and undetermined set of people with the same type and similar characteristics (variants are very fuzzy and can intersect and include each other)
balanced type: someone whose type variant is not extreme but closer to the ‘normal’ type, as described by Jung
marked type: someone who’s closer to the pronounced or extreme cases of his/her type than to the normal type
quadrant: each of the 4 groups of types that share the same proper functions
North Quadrant: INTJ, INTP, ESFJ, ESFP (all Real+Role) → Shared Reality
East Quadrant: ESTJ, ESTP, INFJ, INFP (all Real+Deed) → Personal Reality
